Fascia release and lymphatic drainage

If you've been searching for lymphatic drainage massage in Hove, you've probably read that it should be light, slow and delicate, barely more than a soft stroking on the skin. That's the traditional approach, and it has its place. But after seeing and experiencing the benefits of Sarga Bodywork, I've come to believe that deep fascia release can support your lymphatic system just as well, often more so, and I wanted to explain why.

What I noticed in sessions

Again and again, clients come off the table needing to urinate more than usual, and some feel a bit groggy or fatigued for the rest of the day. At first this puzzled me. It's not what you'd expect from a firm, full body massage. So I took the question to a workshop, Fascia Lymph Connection: Fascial Perspectives on the Lymphatic System, hosted by @lymphloveclub and @tuneupfitness - absolute experts in fascia and the lymphatic system, and asked the hosts directly what was going on.

Check out comments on the instagram post I wrote about this.

The fascia and lymph connection

Their answer was reassuring and genuinely fascinating. Fascia doesn't sit in isolation from the rest of the body. It wraps around and connects to the lymphatic structures that sit just beneath the skin and deeper within the tissue. When we work deeply with fascia, through myofascial release techniques like Sarga Bodywork, we're also moving the fluid held around it back into circulation. Your body then has to process and regulate that shift, which is exactly why you might feel the urge to urinate more, or notice some grogginess afterwards. It's not a side effect to worry about. It's a sign your system is doing its job.

This is also why hydration, rest and giving yourself permission to slow down after a session matter so much. You're not just relaxing after a massage. You're supporting your body through a genuine physiological shift.

Why this matters beyond muscles

What I find most interesting about fascia release is that it was never just about muscles or mobility. Because fascia touches almost every system in the body, working with it well can influence circulation, hydration and lymph flow all at once. That's a very different proposition to a massage that only ever works at surface level.
